First impressions

Level Up Gyms is incredibly easy to get to from where I live and work, with parking right outside. I booked my class through the Privilee app beforehand and checked in quickly at the reception. The Muay Thai and kickboxing area is dedicated, with everything you need for the class right there, including mats, gloves, and wraps.

When I met George, the instructor, I could tell I was in good hands. He was welcoming and immediately set the tone for a class that would be both challenging and fun.

What to expect

The energy levels in a Muay Thai class are high from the start. It’s fast-paced and upbeat, with a lot of movement and focus. The class duration is around 60 minutes, and the flow is a perfect balance of warming up, pad work, sparring, and kickboxing dress, with enough intensity to push your limits but not burn you out.

The standout element for me was the pad work and sparring. It’s such an engaging way to learn the movements and techniques while pushing your endurance. And, while it’s definitely a workout, the class was surprisingly accessible for all levels. Even as a beginner, I didn’t feel out of place.

Instructor style

George’s approach was incredibly supportive and motivating. His instructions were clear and easy to follow, and he made sure everyone was keeping up while also offering personalisation for technique improvements. There was a good balance between one-on-one guidance and group flow, which made the experience feel personal, even in a group setting.

Group vibe

The class was a mix of experience levels, but the energy was always high. It was clear that everyone was there to work hard, but there was no pressure, just mutual encouragement. The vibe was competitive in a good way, with everyone challenging themselves but also supporting one another.

Style of workout

Muay Thai at Level Up is no joke. It's high-intensity, full-body, and will leave you feeling like you’ve had a serious workout. You’ll spend time warming up, followed by a mix of pad work and sparring. There’s no shortage of movement, and the endurance required will definitely get your heart pumping. While the intensity is high, the class is structured in a way that gives you breaks when needed.

You’ll feel the burn in your arms, legs, and core, and by the end, you’ll be drenched in sweat. But it’s all part of the process, and the feeling of accomplishment afterwards is unbeatable.

What to bring & wear

For Muay Thai, wear something supportive and flexible. I recommend usual gym wear that lets you move freely but also provides support during high-impact movements. Essential items to bring include water and a towel.

Suitable for

This class is great for all levels, whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, the structure allows for personal progression. It’s perfect for anyone looking to build stamina, improve technique, and push their limits.

How to book

Booking through the Privilee app is essential to secure your spot. Arriving about 10 minutes before class starts is ideal to get settled in and ready. In terms of etiquette, there’s the usual – respect the space, clean up after yourself, and be ready to work hard.
